Overview

The City of Washington Court House is proud of our downtown historic district and strive to preserve and maintain the integrity of this area for our citizens. Therefore, any change or modification to the exterior of any building (including signage) within the historic district must be approved in advance by the Historic District Review Board.

Applications for Exterior Modifications

All applications must be received by the City of Washington Court House Building and Zoning Department 15 days in advance of the meeting. The online application includes the required sign criteria and approved fonts for signage. We apologize that the approved color chart is only available at the City of Washington Court House Building and Zoning Department and not available online at this time.

If in doubt as to whether your building is in the historic district, please see the Historic District Map (PDF) for clarification.

Signage/Exterior Work

No permits for signage or any other exterior work on buildings in the Historic District will be approved or issued without approval from the Historic District Review Board.
