Visit the Washington Cemetery
Tours of the cemetery grounds, along with the Judy Memorial Chapel, the U.S. Colored Troops burial sites and the Washington Cemetery Fountain, are available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call ahead at 740-636-2385 to confirm hours due to funeral schedules and to arrange a tour of the Judy Chapel.
WASHINGTON CEMETERY RULES AND REGULATIONS
FOR THE SAFETY OF VISITORS AND CEMETERY STAFF
We understand the desire to decorate a loved one’s grave. The goal of these policies is to maintain the beauty of the cemetery while also ensuring the safety of visitors and cemetery staff. All areas of the cemetery must be clear of obstacles for mowing, trimming, cemetery maintenance, preparation of graves, etc.
• 10 MPH SPEED LIMIT
• OPEN DAYLIGHT TO DARK-Violators will be prosecuted
• ANY DECORATIONS AGAINST POLICY ARE SUBJECT TO REMOVAL WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE
• NOT PERMITTED: glass, bottles, crocks, shells, toys, statues, fences, edgings, bricks, stones, rubber mulch, solar lights, wire, shepherd hooks AND SIMILAR ITEMS
• NO BENCHES ARE TO BE PLACED ON ANY GRAVE
• NO HOMEMADE MONUMENTS OR HOMEMADE FOUNDATIONS
• MONUMENT SADDLES & FLOWERS IN PERMANENTLY ATTACHED URNS ARE PERMITTED ALL YEAR
• FRESH CUT FLOWERS ARE PERMITTED..PLEASE, NO GLASS VASES
• POTTED PLANTS ARE PERMITTED ON SPECIAL HOLIDAYS SUCH AS EASTER, MOTHERS DAY, FATHERS DAY, ETC AND SHOULD BE REMOVED SEVEN (7) DAYS AFTER THE HOLIDAY
• NO PLANTING OF TREES, SHRUBS, ROSE BUSHES, OR SPREADING PLANTS
• WASHINGTON CEMETERY ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ITEMS LOST TO THEFT, VANDALISM, WEATHER, ETC
• NO EXCESSIVE DECORATING OF GRAVES
• SPRING CLEAN UP IS THE FIRST FULL WEEK OF MARCH EACH YEAR

Fayette County Historical Museum
The Fayette County Historical Museum proudly showcases items from the county's rich history. The private, non-profit historical society operates the museum at 517 Columbus Avenue, Washington Courthouse. It is open weekend afternoons May through October. Admission is free. Call 740-335-2953 for more information and group tour arrangements.-
